How To Explain Blogging In A Simple Wayby Samo YanezicIf you have a blog, you've most likely been asked at some point to explain blogging and how to start a blog. Blogging can be more than just writing online, so when someone asks, how do you answer their questions so they can understand all that's involved? The first thing to do is explain what a blog is. The easiest way to do this is to explain that "blog" is short for "web log," and that, basically, a blog is a public online journal. The idea of a blog is to share ideas and opinions with others through the Internet, and use the blog posts to inspire comments and conversation. Usually, there's more to a blog than simply journaling online. So when you explain blogging, it's important to also explain how to create and maintain and effective blog. That way, when you tell a friend about blogging, he or she will be able to start a blog. Once you explain what a blog is, the next step is usually explaining the process of starting a blog. As you know, the next step is not creating the blog. And it's important for people to know that when you explain blogging. The next thing you should explain is deciding the purpose of the blog. The most popular and effective blogs have a narrow purpose or focus. For example, a blog about water parks will probably be more effective than a blog about your personal life. Not only will this make posts easier to write, but blogs with a narrow focus can become the go-to blog for their topic. Once the topic is decided, the next step to explain is deciding a title for the blog. This can be just as important as the topic for the blog since this is how readers will refer to the blog, how they'll link it on their own blogs or websites, and the first impression people get of the blog. Once you've explained the creation process, there's still more that you need to make sure is clear. Once a blog is created, after all, the next step is actually posting! When you explain blogging, posting should be what you make sure to spend the most time on. It's the posts that make or break a blog, so it's important that the person you're explaining things to have a clear understanding of how to post on a blog. Blog posts should be somewhat short with shorter paragraphs. This makes them easier to read. And each post should reflect the focus of the blog. If the blog focuses on Tex-Mex recipes, for example, there wouldn't be a blog post about quilting. Sticking to the topic keeps readers coming back. They know what to expect from the blog. Another important part of posting to explain is frequency of posting. You should explain that it's not necessary to post every day, but posts should be regular so readers know about how often to come back and check the blog for new posts. If readers know new posts go up every Wednesday, they're less likely to check the blog on Tuesday and be disappointed when there's nothing new to read. Blogging can be complicated. But when you break down each part of the process in your explanation, it's easy to explain blogging.
