eBay AlternativeLooking for an eBay alternative? There are a couple other ways to sell good online besides eBay.
eBay Alternative Sites and IdeasUbid Ubid is an online auction site that has managed to gain quite a bit of popularity – some say you actually make more on Ubid than eBay. Its traffic is not close to the traffic eBay gets, but you can still sell quite a bit of stuff. Ubid promotes itself heavily on TV and the internet which plays a big role in getting the traffic required for sales. Ubid does not have any listing fees. You only pay fees when you make a sale. So you do not lose revenue on items that do not sell like on eBay. On the downside, all payments go through Ubid and it can take up to 15 days before you receive payment. Amazon Amazon is probably the best eBay alternative in terms of the fact that it gets good traffic as well as the main advantage of higher profit margins. Amazon shoppers tend to pay a lot more for their items than eBayers. On the other hand, there are issues with Amazon’s returns policy. If a buyer complains – even if they have no proof of the claim – Amazon has been known to insist the seller refund the money. Also, Nigerian spammers seem to enjoy sending their emails to sellers so you do have to be prepared to get a lot of spam. Still, Amazon is a good place to sell – particularly items such as electronics where the margins are practically non-existent on eBay. eBid Auctions A great eBay alternative for our friends in the UK is ebid Auctions. They are the second largest auction site in the UK. Also available in Australia, USA, Canada and Ireland. Unfortunately it is also very slow. There are no fees, but we have not heard of many people having a overwhelmingly great success here either. On the bright side, it is fraud proof and you can post as many items for sale as you want. It’s worth listing on this site in additional to your other sales channels. Oztion Oztion is an Australian based auction site, but you can list from overseas. There are no fees, but unfortunately listings take about three times longer to sell than eBay. Google Product Search Our good friend Google. Can you ever go wrong with them? Their product arm – Google Product Search gets a lot of attention from avid Google users and it’s free to list there if you have your own website. You can also incorporate Adwords ads to drive more traffic to your Google Product Search listings, but you are probably better at driving traffic from your website than with Adwords, but that's up to your to experiment with. Craig’s List Do not forget about our good friend over at Craig's List. The is a great eBay alternative is your are looking to sell in your local market. You can actually make quite a bit more money than you can on eBay and there are not listing fees. The only issues is setting up pick-ups with no shows. It takes a little more effort than eBay, but personally I have had great luck with Craig's list. Craig’s List is used by a lot of people, especially in the US, so it can be a great way to sell product.
