Creating a WebsiteLearn How to Make a Website
Obviously you have stumbled upon this page because you are interested in creating your own website. Well congratulations to you because I am going to discuss a lot of topics about website creation that many websites do not talk about. There really are strategies for building a good website and making it successful, and since I have already built successful websites, I am going to share that information with you. Now I know a lot of you are interested in creating a website that is free and no cost to you. Read this article to find out why building a free website could be the biggest mistake you make. If you are like me when I started learning how to build websites, you are completely overwhelmed. There is a lot of information out there and reading all of it just gives you a general understanding. Do not worry. This is where this website comes in handy. It's a guide I have created so that you can find all the information you need in one place. I really wish I had this when I started my websites. So let's get started.
Finding a Topic...When creating a website a lot of people ignore the fact that you actually need to research what exactly you are going to write about. Different niches have different competition and it might be easier to get search engine traffic on a site about abdominal exercises only vs a site on general fitness. Learn more about the importance of your website topic here.
Getting started Tool KitWhat do you need to get started creating a website? Domain Name
A free website domain will give you something like www.geocities.com/yourdomainname.com. This looks unprofessional, especially if you are trying to create a realiable source. Also, free website domains have many restrictions. I've used quite a few free website servers. You can read about my experience here. Web hosting Web hosting is a very important part of building your website. You want a reliable host that provides you with lots of space to upload pictures, video, and other files. Most web hosts will let you sign up monthly or offer your a really cheap rate for signing up for a full year. There are a few things you should know about when looking into web host providers. So before creating a website with a provider, read our article on selecting the right website host. Website Software and Editors Now depending on your level of experience you may want to go with a website software like Dreamweaver that helps you crate a website without HTML or an HTML editor. Most host providers will have a generic site builder. Some are better than others, but it's really up to you. Many hosts supply you with a number of templates to get your website started up quickly.
If you choose not to go with something like Dreamweaver, you will need to learn how to code HTML. You don't need to buy anything. You can simply work out of Notepad (how I make my sites) or you can use a free HTML aditor like Arachnophilia. Just make sure you save the files as a .html file and not a .txt file. Also, you could buy templates online that will help you create a site that fits the look and feel you desire.
Extra FeaturesAre you creating a website about music, video production, or gaming? Do you wish to have a blog or a forum on your site to give you visitors some extra value? A lot of these features require you creating a script for you website. You can find a lot of these free through Google, while some others are not free. For instance phpbb.com is a great free resource that helps you build your own interactive forums for your site. If you can't find a script, and you are not good with coding, you can go to RentACoder.com. There you can hire a programmer to create something for you. You could even hire someone to create a template specific for your website. I really enjoy using this site as it saves me a lot of time. Coders are reviewed by prior users, so you can select someone with a good track record. I've had great success using them.
Can I Make Money from my Website? Are you creating a website for the sole purpose of earning a secondary source of income? Good news for you, there are millions of people that are currently earning both part-time and full-time incomes through the internet. I personally make a good part-time income from my websites. It has allowed me to go from full-time to part-time at my job. You can read about all the different ways you can make money online here and how to increase traffic to your site here.
